The common reaction to Sodium Benzoate is Chronic Urticaria. Chronic Urticaria is itchy red or skin colored hives. Some people will even refer to them as welts.
There are people out there that refer to this allergy as a cumulative allergy referring to “topping up the toxins” and “the body cannot metabolize the toxin”, however we have not been able to find any scientific facts to this.
Some people have reported the following reactions:
- General Itchiness across the whole body
- Insomnia
- Sensitive skin
- Hyperactivity
Other side effects resulting from the allergy.
A major factor of being allergic to Sodium Benzoate is depression. This is due to the constant outbreaks while trying to adapt to a new lifestyle, different foods and navigating the maze of products that contain the substance and derivatives thereof. This becomes even more evident when having a major outbreak or flair ups. This can be soul destroying when you have been super careful and then break out in the infamous red hives and itchy bumps.
Be aware that medication prescribed by Doctors could contain Sodium Benzoate.
The best advice is to ensure that you have a good support group, i.e. family and friends who understand and who care.
It is amazing how we hear only what we want and not what we should hear. A good support group will notice when you are down and let you know.
